Fuel Farm Upgrade - April 2018

Megatronic Power systems recently completed a major upgrade to a fuel farm for one of our clients. The fuel farm itself supplies diesel fuel to a rail service station and is one of the most critical assets in the Pilbara for our client.

The Upgrade works consisted of full design, installation and commissioning of:

  • Full Electrical upgrade including new MCC/Kiosk, new cable tray, new power distribution cabling, new lighting system, new field IO & signal cabling, new instrumentation and network cabling and SIL rated emergency stop circuitry.
  • Addition of Full Control System including PLC for control, smart motor start relays, HMI on site and remote SCADA system with a cutting-edge alarm management system and graphical interface.
  • Mechanical upgrades including the addition of new automated valving, new airline through-out the facility and modifications to main diesel pipeline.
  • Civil Works which included new MCC/Kiosk concrete foundation, new generator concrete foundation, new cable tray supports, new piping supports, landscaping and removal of old infrastructure.

The full commissioning and switchover to the new system was conducted under strict downtime of 6 hours per day across a 5-day period. Megatronic Power Systems ensured that our clients' operations were not affected by handing the facility back to operations each day ahead of schedule ensuring the loadout and refuel of ore trains continued without effect. This project highlighted Megatronic Power Systems' ability to deliver a full turnkey solution, on a brownfield project with no effect on our client’s operations.

The support our team received from our client was exceptional and the ‘one team’ attitude from the start of the project ensured a smooth and well-planned journey to success. A huge congratulations and thanks to all those involved. We look forward to the next project!
